Terms of Use
In short. Poof gives you temporary addresses that only receive mail, and deletes them on a timer. Use them lawfully, and don’t use them for anything you need to keep. Some websites block temporary addresses; we can’t promise any particular site will accept ours. Purchases and refunds go through Apple.
1. Agreement
By downloading or using Poof you agree to these terms and to Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (see section 11). If you don’t agree, please don’t use Poof. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle data.
2. What Poof is
- Poof creates temporary email addresses on domains we operate and shows you the mail they receive.
- Poof is receive-only. You cannot send, reply to or forward mail from a Poof address, and we provide no outgoing mail service.
- Poof looks for verification codes and sign-in links in your mail and shows them in the app, in notifications, widgets and Live Activities. This detection is automatic and can be wrong; always check the message if in doubt.
- The free version is supported by ads. Remove Ads (a one-time purchase) and Premium (a yearly subscription) add features described in the app at the time you buy.
3. Temporary by design
- Free addresses receive mail for 24 hours and can be extended, up to 7 days after they were created. Premium addresses receive mail for 30 days and can be extended. After an address stops receiving, you can read its mail for a limited time (7 days for Free, 30 days for Premium); then the address and all its mail are permanently deleted. The exact periods are in the Privacy Policy.
- Deleted mail cannot be recovered, by you or by us.
- Don’t use a Poof address for anything you will need later, such as an account you may have to recover, receipts, banking, healthcare, government services or legal notices. Once the address is gone you will not receive password-reset or security emails sent to it.
- Addresses are random and hard to guess. An address that has expired or been deleted is not given out again for 180 days (365 days for an address created with Premium). After that it may be issued to someone else, who would then receive mail sent to it.
4. No account; your inbox token
Poof has no accounts. Access to each inbox is controlled by a secret inbox token stored on your iPhone (and, if you turn on sync, in your iCloud Keychain). Anyone who has the token, or the transfer QR code that contains it, can read that inbox. Keep it to yourself. If you lose your iPhone and the token was not synced or saved, we cannot restore the inbox for you, because we have no way to know it was yours.
5. Domains and delivery
- Many websites and apps block temporary email domains, and they can start doing so at any time. We do not guarantee that any website or service will accept a Poof address, or that any particular message will arrive.
- Domain Health in the app shows what we currently know, based on real deliveries, reports and blocklist checks. It is guidance, not a promise.
- We add, rotate and retire domains to keep delivery working. A domain may stop working while you are using it.
- Premium “clean” domains run on our own mail server and tend to be accepted more often, but the same limits apply.
6. Acceptable use
You are responsible for how you use Poof and for following the terms of the websites and services where you use a Poof address. Whether a service allows temporary addresses is between you and that service. You agree not to use Poof:
- for anything illegal, or to help anyone else break the law;
- for fraud, phishing, identity theft, impersonation, or to obtain goods, money, trials or promotions you are not entitled to;
- to harass, threaten or abuse anyone, or to receive content that sexually exploits children (we report such content to the authorities);
- to create accounts in bulk, run spam or bot operations, or evade a ban, rate limit or security control on another service;
- to access our servers other than through the official app, to automate or script the app, or to get around App Attest, daily limits or other protections;
- to probe, overload or disrupt Poof or the domains it uses, or to try to read inboxes that are not yours.
We may limit, suspend or block a device, close an inbox, or delete mail when we reasonably believe these rules have been broken, to protect people, our domains or the service, or when the law requires it. Report abuse to [email protected] or with Report in any message.
7. Mail from others
Mail in your inbox comes from third parties, not from us. We do not check it, endorse it or take responsibility for it. We clean it to remove scripts, block remote images until you choose to load them, and show you where a link goes before it opens, but mail can still be misleading or harmful. Be careful with links and attachments.
8. Purchases and subscriptions
- Remove Ads is a one-time, non-consumable purchase.
- Premium is an auto-renewable subscription billed yearly. The price, currency and what Premium includes are shown in the app before you buy.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the then-current price unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings (on iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions), or from Settings › Purchase Help & Refunds › Manage Subscription in Poof. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Premium continues until the end of the period you paid for.
- If a free trial or introductory offer is shown, any unused part of it ends when you buy a subscription, where applicable.
- To restore purchases on a new device, use Restore Purchases with the same Apple Account.
- When Premium ends, inboxes you created with Premium keep their lifetime; new inboxes follow the Free or Remove Ads rules.
- Purchases may be shared through Family Sharing where the App Store shows that option.
9. Refunds
All payments are processed by Apple, and Apple decides refunds under its own policies. You can request one from Settings › Purchase Help & Refunds › Request a Refund in Poof, or at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something went wrong, please tell us first at [email protected]; we may be able to fix it. Nothing in these terms limits refund rights you have under the law of your country.
10. Ads
The free version shows ads provided by Google AdMob, limited to a general-audience (G) rating. Ads are not shown in the message view, Settings or purchase screens. We are not responsible for advertisers’ products or websites. How ad data is handled is explained in the Privacy Policy.
11. Apple’s terms
Your use of Poof is also governed by Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). These terms add to it; where they conflict, the Standard EULA applies to the extent required. You acknowledge that these terms are between you and us, not Apple; Apple is not responsible for Poof or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it, and is not responsible for any claims relating to it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
12. Changes and availability
We work to keep Poof running, but we don’t promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors. We may change, add or remove features, limits, domains or prices. If we make a change that substantially reduces what a paid subscription includes, we will tell you in the app in advance, and you can cancel before it renews. If we stop offering Poof altogether, we will give reasonable notice in the app where we can.
13. Ending these terms
You can stop using Poof at any time and delete your data in Settings › Data › Delete All Addresses and Messages. Deleting your data does not cancel a subscription; cancel it in your Apple Account settings. We may stop providing Poof to you if you break these terms. Sections 3, 7 and 14 to 16 continue to apply after these terms end.
14. Disclaimer
To the fullest extent the law allows, Poof is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and that mail will be delivered, codes detected correctly, or data kept. Some countries do not allow these exclusions; in that case they apply only as far as the law allows.
15. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost access to accounts on other services, or missed messages, arising from your use of or inability to use Poof. Our total liability for all claims relating to Poof is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Poof in the 12 months before the claim and USD 50.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws in force in Australia, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be handled by the courts of Australia. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the effective date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Poof after that, the new terms apply.
